The diversity of this tourist destination has given him throughout his history a great number of names according to his characteristics; One of the first names was "Xiutla" which means "place where the grass grows", "Bahia del Jorobado" due to the large number of whales that arrive to it, it was also called "Puerto Las Peñas" and finally Puerto Vallarta in honor of the Governor of Jalisco Ignacio L. Vallarta.
